There is no doubt about the fact that the initial days at the gym can turn out to be a rather daunting experience for beginners. Entering the gym, looking around at all those people using the iron equipment, getting fit, makes a person feel lost in no time. To make this daunting experience a relatively comfortable one, all one needs is focus and determination.  The following article consists of some of the most common gym equipment for beginners, with all the necessary guidance concerning their usage.

Dumbbell

While keeping strict gym practices in mind, dumbbells do not fall under the wing of gym equipment for beginners but carry the status of being a versatile set that users can ever encounter. These can easily be set up in homes as well. Dumbbells are available in weight free areas, laying on the vertical stacks.  Dumbbells play a crucial role in helping beginners performing a full-body workout, apart from just being used for bicep curls. They are used for strengthening the triceps muscles in the body, such as overhead extensions, lying triceps, and triceps kickbacks. Making use of a weight bench can help users in stretching their repertoire.

Treadmill

For beginners at the gym who are determined to build muscles, one thing that cannot be avoided is doing cardio. The reason behind this is that cardio proves to be one of the best ways to get the individual heart rate up and makes the body ready to take off heavy lifting. Although one can use a rowing machine for this purpose, for beginners, the treadmill does the job just fine. This gym equipment for beginners is mostly found lined up against the walls with mirrors on them, allowing people to look at themselves making progress. To warm up the body and move towards a cool down post-exercise, running on a treadmill is exactly what is needed. A run of about 5 to 10 minutes on the treadmill before starting the workout session gives the body the warm-up it needs, getting the heart rate into place such that the person does not feel exhausted at the very start of the exercise.  It is not advised for beginners to do long-running sessions on the treadmill or try sprinting, most notably before the workout, as it will only use up all the energy and leave nothing for the main workout session.

Cable Machine

Cable machines carry the status of being referred to as the big brothers of the home gyms. The best things about cable machines are that this machine is suitable for all gym exercises, no matter the type. Beginners can easily follow up their full-body workout with cable machines.  Due to being bulky, these machines are placed against the gym walls, and even if someone is already using the cable machine, it will not be an inconvenience, since this equipment for beginners has two pulleys on both sides catering to two people at one time.  As mentioned above, all exercises can be done with it, be it triceps, straight arm pulldowns, push-ups, kneeling cable crunches, and cable kickbacks.

Smith Machine

Smith machine is another gym equipment for beginners. This machine has large frames, which almost look like squat racks, but consist of a bar attached to the vertical poles on either side. The machine’s formation allows its users to get familiar with various exercises, especially the heavy compound ones, such as squats and bench presses. The reason is the less amount of effort required for pushing the bar both up and down. It saves energy of its users while adjusting their body against the bars of the machine.   The common areas in the gym where smith machines are located are the weight free ones. One pro tip for beginners concerning singing smith machines is not to use for collars for securing weight on the device. The whole machine has to be flipped to one side for the plates to come off.  Beginners are advised to build sufficient muscle memory before one can start workout sessions using proper free weights. The person’s capacity progressing to standard bench presses will be less for lifting than smith machines; this will need to be worked on.

Conclusion

Beginners shall only use such equipment, which is easy to use and not hard on the muscles since it takes time for the body to adjust to heavy exercise equipment.
